For several years, the University of Portland women’s basketball team, the Portland Pilots, have had a special home game cheering section of several residents from Marquis Piedmont. They call themselves the Pilot Pals, and can be seen cheering with gusto and supporting their favorite players. They never miss a game, due to the efforts of Piedmont’s Champion staff.
Recently the Pilot Pals were spotted by local channel KOIN TV, and their heartwarming story was told on the evening news. Campus activity director Lorena Curtis is highlighted in the segment for her efforts to help keep the program alive each year, though she’s quick to credit the efforts of others as well.
Be sure to watch this entire inspiring news story to hear directly from the Marquis residents about how much they love their team, and enjoy attending all the games.
This story gets better! Five of the Pilot Pals have been in Las Vegas, Nev., this week cheering for the Pilots in the WCC Conference Championship tournament. The trip was made possible through a partnership between the Vital Life Foundation and Wish of a Lifetime from AARP. Six Marquis and Consonus staff Champions are traveling with them to provide support. Follow the Vital Life Foundation Facebook page to get updates on the trip, and to see if the Portland Pilots successfully won a championship title!
