History & Background

We’ve dealt with a lot together over the past two years. Despite every difficulty, you’ve continued to give your best every day in taking care of those we serve. In mid-2020, in addition to all the other challenges we were facing, numerous violent events across America triggered hard conversations about race. As a society, we were asked to rethink how we understand the vital issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).

While we as a company recognized the importance of addressing those issues, at that time we were literally facing daily life-and-death decisions forced upon us by COVID-19, and our focus had to remain fully on protecting our employees and residents. Now that we have the tools to fight the pandemic more effectively, it’s time for us to look beyond the pandemic and give DEIB the full priority and attention it deserves.

What is DEIB?

I’d like to take a moment to define DEIB.

Diversity is about representation – who is in the room and who’s not in the room, and is that by default or design? As the world becomes increasingly more diverse, how do we make sure we reflect the diverse communities we serve and that we’re also leveraging the opportunities that come with diversity?  Representation matters. It’s hard to be what you cannot see. There’s a dance between over-and under-representation.
Equity is guaranteed fairness; everyone has the same access, the same opportunities to thrive, the same opportunity to grow, the same opportunity to advance, and the same opportunity to live their fullest potential, and their truest expression. It’s about opportunities – NOT outcome.
Inclusion is about making sure that the people in your community know that they are welcome. Creating an inclusive culture so that people are engaged.
As we’ve probably all experienced at one time or another, sometimes it’s not enough to just be included—you need to feel like you’re an integral part of something like you truly belong.

Share Your Voice – Fill Out the Survey

That brings me to today. I’m asking you to fill out an all-employee survey that will give you the opportunity to candidly (and anonymously) share what’s most important to you when it comes to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. There will be some demographics questions at the end. This will help us determine who is represented within our workforce family. Your responses will guide the direction of the DEI Steering Committee strategic plan efforts.

Please note: This survey will ask if/how you’d like to participate in future DEIB efforts – you will have the option to either enter your contact information (which then connects your survey results to your contact information which is visible to the CPO only) OR you can send an email to and share your contact information/interests there, which will maintain the anonymity of your survey results.

DEADLINE: July 15th

Thank you for your participation. We’re determined to do everything possible to make our workforce an even greater reflection of the people and communities we serve, and we’re honored you’ve chosen to work here.
