Connie, a resident at Marquis Tualatin, had just turned 100 when Rehab Director, Johannah Senn, noticed Connie’s sky-blue nail polish during one of her therapy sessions. She asked Connie if she had gotten a manicure for her birthday yesterday. Connie smiled and replied “Oh no. I painted these myself. I’ve never had a manicure. It looks like fun, but I’ve never done it.” Connie then went on to talk about her life over the last 100 years and how getting her nails done was just not something they did.

Johannah jokingly said, “Well you can’t go your whole life never having had a manicure. I’ll take you,” to which Connie looked at Johannah a little shocked and said, “You would do that?” Johannah told her she would see what she could do, to which Connie responded, “Oh honey, you don’t have to do that for me.” After a few days of figuring out coordination, Connie received the first manicure and pedicure of her life. And she loved every single second of it. During the nail appointment Connie stated, “I wish I would have done this for every birthday.”
