Meaning and Basics of DEIB

We’ve dealt with a lot together over the past couple of years. Despite every difficulty, you’ve continues to give your best every day in taking care of those we serve. In mid-2020, in addition to all the other challenges we were facing, numerous violent events across America triggered hard conversations about race. As a society, we were asked to rethink how we understand the vital issues of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB).

While we as a company recognized the importance of addressing those issues, at that time we were literally facing daily life-and-death decisions forced upon us by COVID-19, and our focus had to remain fully on protecting our employees and residents. Now that we have the tools to fight the pandemic more effectively, it’s time for us to look beyond the pandemic and give DEIB the full priority and attention it deserves.

As you probably recall, a couple months ago we sent out a DEIB survey to every employee. It was just the first step of this very intentional effort to find out what’s most important to YOU as we go down this path.
